Reader's Nook Reviews - The Banker

THE BANKER
BY MICHAEL DRYSDALE

I was given the chance to read and review this book and was pleasantly surprised. At first glance I wasn't sure if it would hold my attention. The banking world isn't exactly the most exciting for me personally. This book, while it is focused on banking, is so much more. With recent bank woes and distrust of CEO's this book brings us into the life of one such person. Sir Phil Black is a CEO of a major bank and didn't really get there because of good merits. He lied and cheated his way all the way to the top, and ends up paying for it. He starts dealing with some old Russian mobsters, who in turn lose a lot of money when the bank crashes. Sir Phil Black then ends up "becoming" a bird watcher and is sent to Ecuador to try and hide from said mobster.

Michael Drysdale really keeps the story moving, there are moments where my eyes glazed over though. Like I said I'm not huge on banking or the financial world. He always got me back on track though and I was never lost for too long. This book was exciting and really had me rooting for the "bad guy" Sir Phil at the end. The end...now that was something I didn't see coming at all. I mean how much bad luck could one guy have? Well I guess a lot if he is being chased by Russian mobsters, the English Govt, and the US Govt. I won't go into too much detail and ruin the story, but it is really great. It really made up for those parts where the banking terminology got too much for me.

This was a great thriller and the twists in this book were amazing. It is definitely a book you should put on your must read list.

If you'd like to purchase this book for yourself you can find it on Amazon.com - it is either $2.99 for the Kindle edition or $12.29+ for the paperback book.

**I received a copy of this book to review and all opinions are mine.

Theraneem by Organix South Review

ORGANIX SOUTH INC.

TheraNeem Products

So while surfing around the web looking for some great organic products, I came across Naked Organix by Organix South. They make products using Neem, which is native to India and Southeast Asia. I honestly have never heard of Neem so google here I come!

So the Neem Tree is actually considered to be a weed, and is pretty hardy. The whole tree is used for different medicinal properties, and believe me there are tons of uses. Neem can be used as a pesticide, a fungacide, antibacterials and antivirals. Neem Oil is full of anti-oxidents, is a proven immune booster, and used as an astringent.

Knowing this, Organix South jumped right on it and brought it out in the open. I have been looking around for a great product for my nails and I think I found it. While looking through Organix South's Website I came across Theraneem's Nail and Cuticle Oil. I am always painting my nails and the constant use of nail polish remover makes my nails dry and brittle. So I have used many different oils for my nails and cuticles and have yet to find one that works completely. At $16.95, Theraneem is a little more on the expensive side, but because it is organic I think it is a very good value. You can use it several times a day and combine it with a Neem Cleansing Bar and then moisturize with some Neem Cream. It has some great ratings and I look forward to trying it out soon!

Theraneem has a huge range of products from beauty, pets, to your garden. The best thing is that its all organic and safe for you and your family, including your furry babies.

Naked Organix Products

Just today I bought another product by Organix South - Naked Organix Kukui Cleansing Bar. This is actually the first time I've heard of Kukui as well. It is a tropical tree that originated in Indo-Maylasia and spread to Hawaii. Kukui oil is rich in Vitamins A,C, and E which means it works great for dry or sun-exposed skin. Living in hot and humid Texas my skin is always drying out. So I'm really excited to try this out and see what a difference it makes. As with all Organix South products it is all organic! At $6.99 a bar it is a great value and you can purchase it on Amazon.com with Free Shipping.

UPDATE: So I received my bar and wow, it arrived super fast and the smell. Wow the smell was so strong, but not overwhelming. It looks and feels like homemade soap, which I really like. The rough edges kind of act as a exfoliater and really help to get my dry skin feeling soft. It works great and its organic so it doesn't mess with my skin. No break-outs or dried out skin for me! I highly recommend trying it out and at $6.99 you can't pass it up.

Beauty Corner Review - Sally Hansen #906

SALLY HANSEN MAGNETIC
#906 IONIC INDIGO

So while shopping at Walmart for some stuff I came across Sally Hansen Magnetic. I have seen magnetic polishes before, but didn't buy because they were kind of expensive. These are $5.97 for one, which isn't a bad deal at all. I got the blue color because I love blue polishes and the effects were pretty cool.

You start off like any other polish - with a base coat. I use Sally Hansen's Advanced Hard as Nails to help strengthen. Next you do a regular thin layer of the polish and wait for it to dry. The second layer needs to be a little thicker, I guess to pull up more of the darker color. Once you have your thick layer on their you grab the removable top with the magnet on it.

Its kind of hard to tell from the above picture, but towards the left side there is an indention. You put that indention towards the cuticle on your nail. Depending on how long you hold it, the darker color comes through. For me I counted to 20 seconds before take it off.

The picture above shows how you place the top over your nail. As you can see the purple arrow is changing the lighter blue into a darker blue. With my ring and pinkie finger I tried to see if I could get the wave in a different direction. For my ring finger I put indention hanging off my nail, which is why the polish is messed up. I got it a little too close to the magnet and they touched. The wave doesn't show as dark as if you were doing it the "correct" way, but it still works. For the pinky finger I did it diagonally and as you can see it worked as well.

Overall I really liked this polish, even with it being pretty thick it didn't take too long to dry. I've only had it on for a few hours so I'll have to update later on as to how many days it lasted. If it's like other Sally Hansen polishes it should be for about 5-7 days.

Home Garden

So with prices going up and up on produce, I decided to try my hand at gardening. I've never tried to garden and I'm not sure if I even will be able to get it to work. So I grabbed some seeds, dirt, and containers and got to work. I got veggies that are eaten and used the most at my house - tomatoes, cucumbers, jalapenos, and onion. My mother loves pico de gallo so I figured just grow my own and save money! How hard could it be...right?

Well so far I haven't seen anything peeking out from under the dirt. I haven't given up yet and I won't stop trying till I see some green! I'm committed to this and if I can get those to grow I may just have to expand on the variety. Once I get the chance I'll get some photos for you guys, but right now as I type this its almost 2am and time for bed.

Wish me luck and hopefully I have a green thumb and we'll be eating some veggies in no time!

Review: Garnier Fructis - Sleek & Shine

GARNIER FRUCTIS SLEEK & SHINE
SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER

I was given the chance to try out Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine shampoo and conditioner by BzzAgent.
I have been using it for a week now and have found my hair to be smoother and even a little shinier. And paired up with Garnier Fructis styling products will enhance your hair even more.I used some leave in conditioner and styled like I normally do and my hair was more manageable.

The scent of the shampoo and conditioner is great and fresh. It stayed on my hair for hours even after spending some time in the scorching hot Texas sun. What also held up was the fact that my hair didn't frizz up as badly as it normally does. I have naturally curly hair so any amount of moisture and it turns into a huge ball of frizzy hair. It didn't happen as badly with the Garnier Fructis, which I was really happy with. It is made with Ultra-smoothing Argan Oil from Morocco and Apricot Oil to keep your hair shiny and smooth.

Also did you know that  they came up with a new Eco-Fructis Bottle which is  made out of PET, the most widely recycled plastic and contains 30% recycled material. So if you're on the market for some new shampoo and conditioner, try Garnier Fructis - Sleek & Shine. You won't be disappointed and your hair will thank you for it. With there normally being coupons in the Sunday paper, your wallet will also thank you.

Check out the whole Garnier Fructis product line online through their website: HERE

**Disclaimer:
Again I was sent a sample through BzzAgent to review, and all opinions are my own.

Food For Thought Reviews - Children's Oxylent

CHILDREN'S OXYLENT DRINK
BUBBLY BERRY PUNCH FLAVOR

I had the chance to try out Children's Oxylent by Vitalah and so glad I did. It is sugar, dairy, gluten, caffeine, additives and preservative free. It provides all key vitamins and minerals that kids are lacking these days like vitamin A, B, C, E, and D3, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and selenium. It only has 5 calories so its better than a lot of other drinks your kids may want. With great flavors you won't have to make them drink it, they'll be begging you to give them some.

I got it in bubbly berry punch which has some fizz to it and tastes great. All they know is that it tastes great, they don't know that its also good for them. Children's Oxylent supports healthy growth, brain function, immune system health, and healthy bones and muscles.

Its super easy to make and the kids can do it themselves. I just put two packs in one water bottle and then poured them out for the kids to share. They drank it up fast and asked if they could have more. Because it's so good for them I went ahead and gave them some more. You can purchase Children's Oxylent by the box which has 30 packets which are perfect lunch boxes and little hands.

Vitalah also makes great products for adults such as Oxylent, Oxylent Prenatal, and Oxylent for when you workout. All three have 15 calories or less and are full of vitamins and minerals that our bodies need to keep us going. They have great flavors like blackberry pomegranate, sparking mandarin, sparkling berries, and sparkling cranberry raspberry. I've tried regular Oxylent and it was delicious, fizzy, and fresh tasting.

So while I got some to review for my family and myself, I'm glad to be able to share some with your family as well. I will be giving a small giftpack of Children's Oxylent for you to try out.

Beauty Corner Reviews - Rimmel Eyeshadow

RIMMEL EYESHADOWS

#410 PLUM ROMANCE
#500 POSH PEACOCK

The first color is actually more of a deeper purple than what it shows in the picture. They were on clearance when I went to Walgreens and jumped on them. Sadly there were only three left, but better than getting nothing! I used the purple as the contour color and the blue as the highlight color. The went together nicely so happy about that.

They are pretty pigmented and went on smoothly. It didn't take much to get a great color and even after a few hours of wear they still looked great. I think in the hands of a pro they would be even more beautiful, but I didn't do too bad a job, right?

Beauty Corner Reviews - e.l.f. Eyeshadow: Olive

e.l.f. DUO CREAM EYESHADOW
"OLIVE"

At first glance I hadn't noticed that these were cream shadows. I haven't had much experience with cream shadows, but I'm quickly becoming a fan. The green has gold undertones which makes it shimmer. The brown is more of a bronze color and it has a great shimmer as well. They went on super smooth and were pretty easy to blend. My only problem was getting the green to pop against the brown. The green, because it has so much gold/yellow in it didn't look like green at all. Overall for the $1 that I spend for this, it was a great deal. I could use the shadows with other colors in my growing collection. I think it would be a great addition to your collection as well.

Recipe - PAN-SEARED AHI TUNA STEAKS

INGREDIENTS

Tuna Steak Ingredients

4 8-ounce fresh tuna steaks, cut about 1-inch thick
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup untoasted sesame seeds

Tamari-Ginger Sauce Ingredients

¼ cup San-J Gluten Free Tamari
1/8 cup rice vinegar
1/8 cup fresh lime juice
3 Tablespoons sugar
2 green onions, thinly sliced
2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced
1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
½ teaspoon dried red pepper flakes

  INSTRUCTIONS

Pat the tuna steaks very dry using paper towels. Using 1 tablespoon of the vegetable oil, rub both sides of each steak and season with salt and pepper. Pour the sesame seeds onto a shallow plate or dish. Coat each side of the steaks with the sesame seeds by pressing the fish into the seeds.

Heat 1 tablespoon of the vegetable oil in a nonstick sauté pan over high heat until the oil is very hot and just about to smoke. Add the tuna steaks and sear for 45 seconds without moving the steaks. Reduce the heat to medium and continue to cook for another 1 1/2 minutes. Flip the steaks over and cook for another 2 minutes for rare tuna steaks, or 3 minutes for medium-rare. Cut the steaks on the diagonal into 1/4-inch thick slices. Plate the tuna steak slices on a platter lined with lettuce leaves.

Prepare the dipping sauce by whisking together in a small bowl the San-J Gluten Free Tamari, vinegar, lime juice, sugar, green onions, ginger, sesame oil and red pepper flakes. Whisk vigorously to blend. Serve immediately with the tuna steaks.

Makes 4 Servings

Use this .55 cent Coupon when you try this recipe out. It sounds delish and I will attempt to make it.

Beauty Corner Reviews: FASH Brushes

FASH Brushset

So while looking around on Amazon.com I came across this brushset. Now if I'm going to be more serious about doing my make-up I need a good set of brushes, right? Well they had good reviews and were only $6 for the set, so why not?! First off the shipping was really fast and they were packaged well. I have heard stories about brushes smelling weird, but these didn't have a smell at all. There were 5 brushes in the set and unlike others mine have not broken or lost bristles. I haven't used the brow brush or the big brush, as I really don't know what to do with them. This was a great starter set, but I've begun to realize that I need different brushes to achieve different looks. Overall, for the value it was a great but and I really recommend them.

Beauty Corner Reviews - Maybelline Color Tattoo

MAYBELLINE COLOR TATTOO
BY EYESTUDIO
#40 "TENACIOUS TEAL"

So one of my fans on Facebook recommended this brand of shadow to me so I went out and got one. These are about $5.50 at Target and with a $1.00 off coupon I bought the one I liked the most. This blue really is as vibrant as it looks. Normally when you use flash it is much brighter than in real life, no so with this shadow. This shadow was my first try at using a cream shadow. There really isn't much difference between powder and cream shadows, for me anyway.

I applied it and it went on smoothly and easily. This was just after one application, how cool is that? It has a lot of shimmer and didn't fade for hours. I will be buying more colors because they are that good. I'm so glad that one of you guys recommended them. If you have any other products you'd like me to try out, feel free to share it with me!

Beauty Corner Reviews - Nicole by OPI

NICOLE BY O*P*I*
"LOVE YOUR LIFE"

So when I saw this in Target it was calling my name. I don't have many glitter polishes so decided I'd get more. When I saw the tiny hearts I just had to buy it. Well first off its cute, really it is, but and it is a huge but - it is a pain to get those hearts! I ended up spending way more time trying to get some hearts onto the brush than it took for everything to dry. I actually broke the brush a bit because I was trying so hard. In the end I got a whole lot of cute little glitter and a couple of hearts. It still is super cute, but wish there was more hearts to go around. Now for the durability, it was fantastic. I scrubbed the counters and washed a huge load of dishes two days after I first applied it. I only had one casualty and the polish peeled off cleanly from my nail. The other nails still have all their hearts and it is now been 4 days. I honestly thought I'd lose them so I'm pretty pleased with it.

As you can see I have at least two hearts per each finger. This is $7.45 at Target and with that $1.00 coupon that came in the paper this week, go ahead and "splurge" a little.

Beauty Corner Review: LA Colors #BES429

LA COLORS #BES429
"AMMUNITION"

Here is another palette that I picked up while at family dollar. I wasn't sure about the colors together as they are all sort of dark, but they worked well. I think I did a pretty good job on it and like the other palettes I've gotten the colors are good. The only problem was the black was more of a very dark gray than a true black. These actually faded a bit faster than the other colors and I had to reapply after about 2hrs. It wasn't so bad that it turned me off to them though. Also for $1-$2 I don't feel too bad about having to use more to keep it looking nice and crisp. So like I've said before if you have felt "iffy" about buying LA COLORS because of the price, don't hesitate as it will surprise you.

Beauty Corner Reviews: LA Colors #BES428

LA COLORS #BES428
"LOLLIPOP"

I'm really having fun with LA COLORS and for $1-$2 you can really afford to play. These colors are really pretty and shimmer really nicely. They go on really easy and blend pretty well. The colors stayed bright and crisp for about 3hrs before I had to reapply them. I bought this one at my local Family Dollar so they are readily available.

So who says you can't get a great look with something that came from a "dollar" store? Well not I for sure! Go out and grab some now.

LA COLORS #BME591
GEMSTONE

So I was walking around the store and came across these mineral eyeshadows from LA COLORS. It was really smooth and went on fast. The colors were nice and bright and blended well. Great thing was this was only $1.80 at the Family Dollar. That's super affordable and it lasted a few hrs before I had to do any touch-ups. I think if I was better at applying make-up it would look so much better. So you should go out there and try it out and share with everyone!

Reader's Nook Boor Review: Slippery Souls

SLIPPERY SOULS
BY RACHEL H DIXON

Slippery Souls is a unique take on the afterlife or life in purgatory. Libby dies and ends up in Sunray Bay aka purgatory because she is abnormal. I won't go too much into it because that would ruins things. There she meets a whole cast of weird characters and not all of them are human. From the moment she gets there you know its going to be really interesting for her. But she isn't alone as she has her buddy Rufus, her dog who also died when she did. She befriends ,sort of, Grim who is a Peace and Order Maintenance guy. They're the police of the afterlife, and they aren't always nice. Libby doesn't know what's up ahead and you don't either, but it doesn't ruin the story. Not knowing what's next keeps the momentum going and makes the story more enjoyable.

Rachel H Dixon writes very well and the story is really easy to follow. The characters and setting are well thought out, and you can really picture them in your mind. The great thing is this is the first book in the series, and believe me, you'll want to continue reading the story.

Beauty Corner Reviews - Nicole by OPI # 259

NICOLE BY OPI
#259 I'VE GOT THE POWER

Don't you think this is just wonderfully pink? Its got undertones of red, which you can't tell too much in the photo. I so need to get some better lighting so I can get away with not using flash. Anyway like all the other OPI polishes, this one goes on easily and quickly. You need at least 2 coats to cover your nail. It lasted me for about 5 days which isn't too bad. I think it's supposed to last longer, but I'm not a prissy girl who doesn't do manual labor. I started a garden and well, it fared pretty well against that. You can buy Nicole by OPI from Target for $8.00 (which is where I got this bottle). It's a good nail polish, especially if you love pinks!

Beauty Corner Reviews - NYC #139

NYC - NEW YORK COLOR
#139 PLAZA PLUMBERRY

Sorry for the messy job, was rushing a bit.

So I have been looking for new polishes to try out and came across this one on Amazon.com. It was a great price at only .90 so I figured why not try it out. Now I've used $8.00 polishes so how great could a .90 polish be? Well it actually is pretty awesome! It isn't too thin and because its dark covers pretty well even with one coat. The color is a purple with red undertones, as you can kind of see in the picture. I guess it would be a maroon color. This was definately a great buy and will be testing out its longevity this week.

GIVEAWAY:
So I bought two of these and one of them is up for grabs! All you need to do is answer the question below. If you can't answer below then send a message via email to infinitedreams50@aol.com -- If you can comment below then please do it that way.

QUESTION: HOW LONG DO YOU THINK THE POLISH WILL LAST BEFORE IT CHIPS?
